ABOUT CARBON DIOXIDE (CARBONIC ACID)
Carbonic acid is a weak acid that occurs in low amounts when carbon dioxide dissolves in water. Generally, the designations 'carbon dioxide' and 'carbonic acid' often refer to the same thing. Carbon dioxide is a non-flammable, colourless and odourless gas (CO2).
As a general principle, there are two various types of carbon dioxide: natural carbon dioxide, so-called source carbon dioxide, which Tyczka obtains from its own sources, as well as technically created carbon dioxide, so-called process carbon dioxide. This is obtained through purifying raw carbon dioxide from various chemical processes in crude oil and natural gas processing.
Carbon dioxide is liquefied under pressure at ambient temperature in pressurised gas bottles and containers for transport and storage. These contain both liquefied and gaseous carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide can be used as dry ice in the form of blocks, plates or so-called pellets.
Due to its special chemical properties (solubility, slow reactivity, but also reactivity and cooling capability due to the states of aggregation gaseous, liquid and solid), carbon dioxide has diverse applications in a wide variety of industries:
- Carbonisation of beverages
- Cooling and freezing foodstuffs
- Protective gas for packaging
- Steel and metal processing
- Fertilisers
- Neutralisation of alkali effluent
